Digitalizing Statues in Lausanne

In this post I would like to present a video from a course project that I participated in last semester. The video shows how we took a huge collection of high-resolution photos of statues in and around Lausanne, Switzerland. These photos were subsequently matched to each other and a 3D reconstruction was created. After excessive cleaning and texturing processes, we ended up with high resolution meshes of the statues.
This project, which took place at EPFL in cooperation with the start-up Pix4D and the city’s department of culture, shows that one does not need an expensive laser scanner to reconstruct 3D objects. Finally all statues were displayed in a virtual museum.
